Analysis Tools

This site provides online tools that are helpful for users to make their own analyses using GED data.
To submit some calculations for "Trajectory (METEX)" and "Footprint (FLEXCPP)", user registration is required.
If you have already registered as a user on the old site, you can access your previous calculation results by registering the same e-mail address as before.

Quick Plot

The data released from the GED can be easily visualized as time series and scatter plots. In the case of mobile observation platforms such as ships, users can plot the parameters on a map.

Trend Analysis

Long-term variations and trends of time series data can be calculated by performing FFT (Fast Fourier Transform) analysis using Thoning's exponential frequency filter (Thoning et al. 1989) to remove the short-term variations. Users can input time series data into the form, and then get the output as a graph or coefficients of filtered results.

Trajectory (METEX)

This tool simulates the trajectory of air parcels using meteorological data such as wind direction and speed. It can display pre-calculated 10-day back trajectories for Hateruma and Ochi-ishi stations as well as animations of the CO₂ variations observed at Hateruma and Ochiishi stations along with 5-day back trajectories that are initialized at the same location and observation time.

Footprint (FLEXCPP)

This tool calculates two types of footprints at any date and location. One is the contribution of near surface particles arriving at a given point, and the other is the distribution of particles emitted from a given point. For this calculation, FLEXCPP, a Lagrangian particle dispersion program, is used. It also provides the footprint of 10-day back trajectories when 10000 Lagrangian particles are released from Hateruma and Cape Ochiishi stations.
