Shorea bracteorata (Serting)
Mature fruits were observed in Serting. The numbers of mature fruits for Shorea leprosula which can avoid suffering from predator bite were almost zero in sporadic flowering last year, however, the predator bite for Shorea bracteolata fruits in this sporadic flowering event seems to be not so high. Non-dipterocarp fruiting at same time seems to be affecting the predator pressure

Giant honey bee (besides Pasoh station)
We found few nests of giant honey bee in the beginning of October when the flowering of non-dipterocarp species was coming. The host tree is Keruing (Dipterocarp sp.). Now the numbers of nests on the tree grow up to 17pieces in total. Usually, orang asli collect the honey from those nest and sell it RM40 to 50 per 1kg. Some asli guys estimated that they can collect approximate 100kg of honey from those 17 nests. They explained if the bee collect the honey from forest flower, the color of honey is rather reddish to totally black, but in case they collect it from rubber flower, the color is yellow and more dark yellow if it is from oil palm flower.

Flowering of Shorea macroptera was observed in Pasoh. Last flowering of this species was 2002. Usually this species is the first run species of mass flowering. However, so far until today it seems there is no flower bud on the canopy of another species. So, we are suspecting that this flowering is sporadic one.
