| Abstract: |
In Hokkaido University, Hiyamai Experimental Forest, compartment 9, a natural Beech Secondary forest has been investigated to examine its satand structure and dynamics. A study plot with area 0.5-ha was introduced in 1996, followed by repeated tree censuses (5-year interval).

The study plot is located on a flat wetland (180m asl) in compartment 9 of the Hiyama Experimental Forest. The size of the study plot is 50m × 100m.

Tree location measurements / 立木位置測定
The short side of the study area was set as the X-axis and the long side as the Y-axis, and the XY coordinates of the trees to be measured were measured in increments of 0.01 m using a tape measure; after 2001, the new boundary trees were measured in increments of 0.01m from the nearest existing standing tree.
