In Hokkaido University, Hiyamai Experimental Forest, compartment 7, a natural Beech Secondary forest has been investigated to examine its satand structure and dynamics. A study plot with area 0.5-ha was introduced in 1995, followed by repeated tree censuses (5-year interval). (ja) 北海道大学檜山研究林第７林班ブナ二次林の林分構造と動態を調べるため、1995年に面積0.5haの調査区を設け、5年間隔で、個体の生死、胸高直径、樹高等を計測している.

Location / 位置

The study plot is located on a flat wetland (280m asl) in compartment 7 of the Hiyama Experimental Forest. The size of the study plot No. 1 is 50m × 50m. The size of the study plot No. 2 is 50m × 50m.
(ja) 調査地は檜山研究林第7林班、東～南斜面（標高250-280m）に位置する。調査区の面積は0.50ha（50ｍ×50ｍ*2）である。

Targets to measure / 測定対象

The target trees were 6 cm or more in diameter at breast height (1.3 m). Individual trees were identified using numbered metal plates.

The diameter at breast height (1.3 m above ground level) of the trees to be measured was measured in 0.1 cm increments using a steel tape.
