| Abstract: |
In Hokkaido University, Teshio Experimental Forest, compartment 239, This site was established for observing succession of remained trees in a conifer-hardwood mixed stand after group selection cutting in 1990-1992. Since 1993, a tree census with an area of 0.5ha (100×50ⅿ) has been doing. Girth at breast height, diameter at breast height, tree height, survival, crown width, shortage of wood, grade of wood quality were measured at 5-year intervals (10-year intervals after the 3rd census). Measurements are different in each tree census year, please refer to the "Measurement method" described below. The forest was thinned at 2003-2005.

北海道大学天塩研究林239林班において、群状択伐施業後（1990-1992 年実施）の針広混交天然林の林分の変化を観察するために設置された。1993年に面積0.5ha(100×50ⅿ)の調査区を設けた。約5年間隔（3回目調査以降は10年間隔）で胸高周囲長、胸高直径、樹高、生枯、樹冠幅、欠点、樹幹級等を測定している。（※測定項目は各調査年で異なるため、下記に記載の「測定方法」をご確認ください） 2003-2005年に択伐を実施した。

Targets to measure / 測定対象
Individual trees were identified using numbered metal plates. In 1993, the census targeted trees with diameter at breast height (1.3m above ground) equal to or larger than 4-cm in the plot. Since 1998, the census targeted trees with diameter at breast height (1.3m above ground) equal to or larger than 6-cm in the plot.

Until 1993, diameter at breast height (DBH: 1.3 m above ground) was measured with a caliper (2 cm unit). Since 1998, girth at breast height (GBH: 1.3 m above ground) was measured with a steel tape and converted into diameter.

Grade of wood quality 1 / 樹形級（じゅけいきゅう）
Grade of tree quality was classified into four categories (after the 'Soviet' classification) for trees in broadleaved forests or in mixed forests. Code indications. 1: overstory tree with good wood quality, 2: understory tree, which is expectable to grow a good overstory tree, 3a: a tree which interrupt a better tree, 3b: a tree with un-straight stem or with a sign of death, decay or weakening.
