Abstract:
In Hokkaido University, Uryu Experimental Forest, compartment 317, the dynamics of spruce swamp forest . In 1992, a tree census with an area of 0.50 ha (100 m x 50 m) was established . The diameter at breast height (DBH), tree height, and crown width were measured at 5-15 year intervals . " (ja) 北海道大学雨龍研究林317林班でアカエゾマツ湿地林の動態を調べた。1992年に面積0.50ha (100m×50m)の調査区を設けた。 5~15年間隔で胸高直径,樹高,樹幹幅を計測した。

Description:

Location / 位置

The tree census plot is located in compartment 317 of Uryu Experimental Forest. The area of the tree census is 0.50ha (100m x 50m).

Step 2:
Description:

Targets to measure / 測定対象

The target trees were 6 cm or more in diameter at breast height (1.3 m). Individual trees were identified using numbered metal plates.
(ja) 胸高直径6cm以上を対象とした。金板を調査木に取り付け個体識別した。

Species of the targeted trees were recorded.

Description:

Girth at breast height, Diameter at breast height / 胸高周囲長(きょうこう しゅういちょう)、胸高直径(きょうこうちょっけい)

In 1992 , diameter at breast height (DBH: 1.3 m above ground) was measured with a diameter tape measure (First decimal place).
(ja) 1992年の調査では測定対象木の胸高直径(地上1.3m)を、直径巻尺を用いて計測した(cm:小数点第一位)。

"In 1992 , height was visually measured with a scale pole (1.0m unit). Measured only for some individuals"

Crown width / 樹冠幅(じゅかんはば)

In 1992,Crown width of the targeted tree was measured using a tape measure in four directions of 0 degrees, 90 degrees, 180 degrees, and 270 degrees with respect to the reference direction in the plot. Measured only in the southern half of the area.
(ja) 1992年の調査では、測定対象木の樹冠幅を巻尺を用いて、調査地内の基準となる方向に対して0度、90度、180度、270度の4方向について計測した。 南側半分のエリアのみ測定。

Description:

Shortage of wood / 欠点(けってん)

Shortage of wood of the targeted trees was measured. Description of wood damage: broken, fallen, fungal-damaged, insect-damaged, frost crack, bent, bifurcated, unavailable (as timber).
(ja) 測定対象木を木材として利用した場合の欠点を記録した。記載内容:折れ、倒れ、菌害木(きんがいぼく)、虫害木(ちゅうがいぼく)、凍裂木(とうれつぼく)、曲がり、二叉(ふたまた)、採材不能(さいざいふのう。木材として使用不可能)。

Grade of wood quality 2 / 樹幹級(じゅかんきゅう)

Grade of tree quality was classified into five categories (after the 'Terasaki'classification) for trees in coniferous forests. Code indications. 1: overstory tree with good wood quality, 2: overstory tree with unstraight stem or with a sign of death, decay, or weakening, or that interrupt a better tree, 3: understory tree, which is expectable to continue vigorous growth, 4: suppressed understory tree, 5: understory tree with unstraight stem or with a sign of death, decay or weakening.
(ja) 「樹幹級」は針葉樹林に適用し、樹木を以下の5つに区分する(寺崎式樹形級区分に準拠)。1:上層の優良木、2:あばれ木、上層の樹冠過弱木・樹冠偏倚木・分岐木・被害木、3:下層木の良木(将来良好な生育が見込まれるもの)、4: 被圧木(ひあつぼく)、5:生育衰退木・倒木・枯損木・傾斜木.
