Online Application

Welcome to this online application developed by the Centre for Global Environmental Research (CGER) of the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES) in cooperation with the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), by which the World Data Centre for Greenhouse Gases (WDCGG) under the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) provides advanced functions. The main purpose of this site is to provide a place for conditional data search and visualization of global greenhouse gas concentrations from the WDCGG's database. The WDCGG maintains data for various kinds of greenhouse gases (i.e. CO2, CH4, N2O, O3, halocarbon, etc) observed at stations in the world and onboard ships and aircraft.

What can you do here?

  • The “Quick view” page lets you set the grid size of an image map for a gas species and plot its concentration change with time by clicking a grid in the map. In addition to regional change, you can also plot the change in a latitudinal or longitudinal zone or of the whole globe.

  • The “Data query” page lets you extract WDCGG data for a given range of latitude, longitude, altitude, and time. Data are categorized as hourly, daily, monthly, irregular and mobile.

  • The "Station & cruise" page lists links to source data and their measurement information.

WDCGG data in text format are converted to a database for online applications.

  • Data in the event category of WDCGG are divided into mobile and irregular categories. The mobile category is used for measurements with variable latitude, longitude, or altitude and the irregular category for occasional measurements at fixed stations.

  • The database only includes data originally archived in the categories of hourly, daily, monthly, and event. Therefore, a small number of data sets, e.g., ice core CH4, cannot be found here.

Online applications of this site are funded by the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and are developed and operated at the Centre for Global Environmental Research of the National Institute for Environmental Studies in cooperation with the Japan Meteorological Agency.
