ODIAC Fossil fuel emission dataset

Collaborators / Acknowledgments

  • CO2 emission estimates

Dr. Gregg Marland, Dr. Dennis Gilfillan, the Research Institute for Environment, Energy, and Economics (RIEEE), Appalachian State University, Boone, NC, USA. The estimates are available at https://energy.appstate.edu/CDIAC.
Mr. Thomas Boden and Dr. Robert J. Andres, Carbon Dioxide Information and Analysis Center (CDIAC), Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Oak Ridge, TN, USA (retired).

  • Nightlight data processing

Dr. Christopher D. Elvidge, the Payne Institute for Public Policy, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO, USA.
Dr. Miguel O. Román, the Earth from Space Institute (EfSI), Universities Space Research Association (USRA), Columbia, MD, USA.

  • Temporal scaling factor

Dr. Ray Nassar, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Toronto, Canada.

  • Power plant database

Power plant locations and emission estimates are primarily based on Carbon Monitoring Action (CARMA) power plant database. CARMA was developed by the Center for Global Development, Washington, DC (project web). The ODIAC team has been improving the power plant representations in the ODIAC model in collaboration with:
Prof. Rostyslav Bun, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Lviv, Ukraine/WSB University, Dąbrowa Gόrnicza, Poland,
Dr. Iryna Ryzha, Lviv Polytechnic National University, Lviv, Ukraine,
Dr. Tadanobu Nakayama, NIES, Tsukuba, Japan, and
The GPPD team at the World Resources Institute (WRI) (project web).

  • EDGAR dataset

International ship tracks used in the ODIAC dataset were adopted from the version 4.1 of EDGAR emission data. EDGAR data is developed by European Commission, Joint Research Center (JRC)/Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency (PBL). The dataset is available at http://edgar.jrc.ec.europa.eu/.

  • AERO2k aircraft emission dataset

Aircraft flight patterns were adopted from the AERO2k aviation emission inventory. AERO2k was developed at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK (project web).
