Requirements for data download

JaLTER requires data users to input their information (name, organization, contact, purpose of data use) into the following form. JaLTER utilizes these information for the purpose of:

understanding how the JaLTER Metacat Service is used so that JaLTER can make its future plan (including improvement of this service), and
recording the information of the data users to protect the rights of the data providers.

JaLTER handles the information under the Act on the Protection of Personal Information (Japan).

Data stored in this database are provided to the users under "JaLTER Database Terms of use". The data users have to abide by "JaLTER Database Terms of use", and use the data under the license described in it.

JaLTER Database Terms of use

This document provides terms and conditions that apply to access and use of JaLTER Database Systems, and data/metadata stored in them.


Definition
"JaLTER Database" means information systems under the control of JaLTER (i.e. Metacat and several systems connected with it) and data/metadata stored in them.


JaLTER Database System
You may freely use search, view and download functions on the JaLTER Database Systems.

You shall provide JaLTER about your information, such as an email address, a purpose of use of downloaded data, etc., when you download any datafiles. JaLTER will use your information only to improve JaLTER Database Systems.


Metadata
In principle, Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International Public License
(CC BY-NC 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0/legalcode) shall be applied to metadata stored in JaLTER Database. Alternatively, Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License (CC BY 4.0, https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode) shall be applied to metadata if CC BY 4.0 is applied to dataset related with the metadata.

If it is unclear who created metadata, the creator of dataset related with the metadata shall be assumed to be the creator of the metadata.


Dataset
In principle, a license described on metadata shall be applied to dataset related with the metadata.

Alternatively, "JaLTER Standard Data License" shall be applied to dataset if the metadata related with the dataset does not have any description for use of data, or if the metadata is not found in JaLTER Database.

In no event shall JaLTER and JaLTER members be liable for any damages arising in any way out of the use of JaLTER Database.
