Abstract:
Inorganic chemistry of throughfall and stemflow in TOEF, Japan. The data are published in Shibata. H., Satoh, F., Tanaka, Y. and Sakuma, T. (1995) The role of organic horizons and canopy to modify the chemistry of acidic deposition in some forest ecosystems. Water, Air, and Soil Pollution 85: 1119-1124.; Shibata, H. and T. Sampling, Processing and Quality Control Methods

Step by Step Procedures
Step 1:
Description:

Throughfall

Collected with rain gutter (0.12 x 3.6 m) under forest canopy

Four replications in each stand

Sample ID 2, 3, 4 and 5 were observed in deciduous broad-leaved forest (Df-site)

Sample ID 12, 13, 14 and 15 were pbserved in coniferous evergreen forest (Cf-site)

Step 2:
Description:

Stemflow

Collected using PVC tube rolled obliquely around trunk.

Sample ID 6 was observed at Quercus crispula.

Sample ID 16 was observed at Pinus koraiensis

Step 3:
Description:

pH

Measured with pH grass electrode

Step 4:
Description:

EC

Measured with EC electrode

Step 5:
Description:

Ca, Mg, K and Na

Measured with atomic absorption spectrophotometers

Step 6:
Description:

Cl, NO3, PO4 and SO4

Measured with ion chromatography

Step 7:
Description:

Bicarbonate

Measured using titration method (4.3 BX)

Step 8:
Description:

Ammonium

Measured with indophenol blue absorptiometry
