There is the Picea glehnii natural forest in compartment 118 of the Teshio Experimental Forest, Hokkaido University. Some part of the forest, overstory becomes dies. This Long-term permanent plot observe dynamics of stand structures and change. A study plot with area 0.5-ha was introduced in 1991, followed by repeated tree censuses (at about 5 or 10 year intervals).

北海道大学天塩研究林118林班に、アカエゾマツの純林が成立しているが、群状に上層木が枯れている林分がある。このアカエゾ純林が変遷していく様子を観察するため、1991 (平成3) 年に形状100 m x 50 m、面積0.5haの調査区を設け、約5～10年間隔で、胸高周囲長、樹高、樹冠幅を計測し、森林崩壊動態観察を実施している。
なお、長期観察林の調査は、以下の試験課題として実施した。
基盤調査課題; 長期観察林, 北海道大学北方生物圏フィールド科学センター森林圏ステーション長期計画 (2015～2024)。

A code indication of wood quality, with considering tree-form, is applied for individual trees in hardwood forests and mixed forests;
1: overstory trees with good wood quality.
2: understory trees, which are expectable to become a good dominant tree.
3a: Trees, which interrupt a better tree.
3b: Trees with unstraight stem, a sign of death, decay or weakening.
"Jukei-kyu" has 4th grade or 5th grade in the investigation in 2006.
The truth is 1, 2, 3a, 3b.

The location of trees is given as a local X, Y coordinate.
Y coordinate is replaced with X coordinate in comparison with data of 1991 and 2001.
The direction of the X-axis and the Y-axis of 2006 is the same as 2001 census. The base point (0, 0) is same.
