A natural forest has been investigated to examine its stand structure and dynamics. A study plot with area 0.5-ha was introduced in 1991, followed by repeated tree censuses (at about 5year interval)., 北海道大学天塩研究林202林班天然林の林分構造および動態を調べるため、1991年に面積0.5haの調査区を設け、約5年間隔で毎木調査を行っている.

The study plot is located in compartment 202 of the Teshio Experimental Forest., 調査地は天塩研究林202林班に位置する. The size of the study plot is 5000m2 (100 x 50m; N 45 01 17.9, E 142 01 17.2; N 45 01 18.2, E 142 01 15.0; N 45 01 21.4, E 142 01 15.8; N 45 01 21.2, E 142 01 17.9)

Targets to measure, 測定対象
The census targeted trees with diameter at breast height(1.3m) equal to or larger than 4-cm in the plot(until 2001 census). The census targeted trees with diameter at breast height(1.3m) equal to or larger than 6-cm in the plot(flom 2006 census).Trees were identified by metal plate, and their species names were recorded.The individual number of metal plate is the same through two or more census term.,2001年までの調査は調査区内の胸高直径4cm以上の樹木を対象とした. 2006年からの調査は調査区内の胸高直径6cm以上の樹木を対象とした. 金番で個体識別し、樹種名を記録した. 個体番号は複数の調査期を通して同じである。

Diameter at breast height and girth at breast height, 胸高直径、胸高周囲長
Diameter at breast height was measured with a caliper (1991 census). Girth at breast height was measured with a steel tape,and then Girth at breast height was converted into the diameter at breast height (from 1996 census). ,1991年測定時は測定対象木の胸高直径を輪尺を用いて計測した.1996年測定時以降の胸高直径は測定対象木の胸高周囲長をコンベックスを用いて計測し、直径に換算した.

Height, 樹高
Height was measured with a scale pole (by 2001 census) and naked eye observation (by 2001 census). Height was measured with ultrasonic hypsometer (2006 census). , 2001年測定時までは測定対象木の樹高を目視と測桿ポールを用いて計測し、2006年測定時は超音波樹高測定器を用いて計測した.
