A natural forest has been investigated to examine its stand structure and dynamics. A study plot with area 0.18-ha was introduced in 1988, followed by repeated tree censuses (at about 5year interval)., 北海道大学天塩研究林220林班天然林の林分構造および動態を調べるため、1988年に面積0.18haの調査区を設け、約5年間隔で、胸高周囲長、樹高、樹冠幅を計測している.

The census targeted trees with at breast height(1.3m) equal to or larger than 30-cm in the plot. Trees were identified by metal plate, and their species names were recorded., 調査区内の胸高周囲長30cm以上の樹木を対象とした.金番で個体識別し、樹種名を記録した.
